Alimentaria México 2007 positions itself as a business centre for the Latin American market. The food and beverage show will take place 5 - 7 June in Mexico’s capital

Alimentaria México, the country’s most important food and beverage show, is gearing up for its seventh edition 5 - 7 June, 2007 at Centro Banamex in the Mexican capital. The previous show’s excellent numbers give an idea of the scope of this increasingly more international and competitive event: 450 exhibitors from 25 countries, with almost 50% coming from outside Mexico.

Alimentaria México has succeeded in positioning itself as a strategic business centre for the Latin American market. It is able to attract close to 450 exhibitors, 49.9% of which are foreign, from 25 countries in America, Asia and Europe. In terms of visitors, the number of professionals attending the upcoming event is expected to exceed 11,000. This would represent a 6% increase over the previous edition.
Alimentaria México is noteworthy for being the only international exhibition in Mexico to include all areas of the food and beverage industry in its 12,000 m2.

The star pavilion will be the second edition of Alimentaria Equipos. Following on from the success of the previous event, this pavilion will present a full range of offerings for the food and beverage preservation, preparation and presentation industry. Surveys show that six out of every ten visitors to Alimentaria México come from the food service channel, and require equipment for their establishments. In addition, this year’s show will place special emphasis on organically grown foods, with the creation of Pabellón Orgánicos.

Alimentaria México is a highly professional event, and its thousands of visitors have an annual budget of 575 million dollars for the purchase of food and beverages. Furthermore, 84% of them are involved in the decision-making process for their company’s purchases. This information serves as an indicator of the professionalism and quality of visitors to the event. Each year, Alimentaria México is visited by Mexico’s main supply chains, including Wal-Mart, Soriana, Comercial Mexica and Gigante, as well as the top wholesalers and importers, all seeking new products.

Visitor satisfaction
According to surveys, 98% of visitors would like to attend again, and 92% feel that their business goals were achieved. In addition, 88% definitely plan to take part again, and visit Alimentaria México 2007.

Alongside the trade fair’s dynamic sales, the show offers a wide range of activities for the professional visitor, and these are increasing with each new edition. They include the Mexican National Gastronomy Conference-TENDENCIAS, the National Sommelier Contest, nutrition seminars, wine tasting and sampling the extensive and well-known selecton of Mexican beverages.

The competitive advantages of investing in Mexico
Mexico’s capital and its metropolitan area are home to 22 million inhabitants, a figure exceeded only by Tokyo. Mexico’s total population is 105 million and it is the world’s tenth largest market in terms of population size. 10% of its population, over 10 million inhabitants, have a per capita income of over 30,000 dollars. This figure is on a par with European countries like Germany and France, and is somewhat higher than Spain’s.

These numbers clearly indicate the excellent opportunities offered by Mexico, not only as a gateway to the United States or the supply the domestic market, but also for assimilating new imported products. Mexico is at the top of the list for Latin American countries in terms of per capita GDP.
