Attendance on the part of foreign buyers increased by 20 per cent, travelling to the fair mainly from Latin America and Europe
SIMM welcomes some 19,300 visitors which represent and increase on last year. The fair reflected the upturn within the clothes manufacturing industry, as witnessed by the considerable trade activity recorded throughout the event's three-day duration. The LatinoAméricaFashion Show and the attendance of the designers grouped together in ADÑ brought together all the cutting-edge trends in Spanish and Latin American fashion.
The 56th edition of the Madrid International Fashion Fair (SIMM), which took place between 1st and 3rd September, achieved some favourable results, consolidating the event's status as the second most important clothing trade fair in Europe. Organised by IFEMA at Feria de Madrid, intensive trade contacts were established throughout the fair's three-day duration, especially at an international level, which reflects the fact that the fashion and clothing industry is enjoying something of a recovery. This new edition of SIMM, which was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Madrid City Council, Manuel Cobo, witnessed a significant increase in the number of buyers, compared to the same edition last year. In short, a total of 19,382 visitors were recorded, which represents an increase compared to the September 2005 edition. We might highlight the strong increase in the number of foreign professionals, whose attendance grew by 20 per cent, in the form of nearly 2,000 foreign buyers. The countries that witnessed the strongest growth in terms of their participation included Argentina, Australia, the Czech Republic, Ecuador, the United States, Italy, Lithuania, Paraguay and Russia, which all tripled the number of buyers they sent to SIMM. The number of professionals who attended the fair from Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Switzerland and Uruguay doubled. Renewed Success at the LatinoAméricaFashion Show In addition to presenting the latest new features in women's fashion, men's fashion, lingerie and swimwear for next Spring-Summer 2007 Season, SIMM also hosted the staging of the third edition of the LatinoAméricaFashion Show. On this occasion, the event featured a number of important new features, such as the expansion of the fashion parade programme, the presentation of men's fashion and the incorporation of Portugal as a participating country. The LatinoAméricaFashion Shows took place on a catwalk assembled in Hall 5. The high quality of the collections was acknowledged by the professionals who attended the parades, packing out the hall with every show. On this occasion, the LatinoAméricaFashion Show consisted of a joint fashion parade featuring the participation of Isabel Henao (Colombia), Julia y Renata (Mexico), and Melk Z-Da (Brazil). Three solo fashion parades were presented by Olga Piedrahita (Colombia), Miguel Vieira (Portugal) and Máxime Perelmuter (Brazil). All of the parades were hosted by the designers of the ADÑ Association, who accompanied the participants during their shows. The LatinoAméricaFashion Show initiative was created by SIMM in September of last year with a view to providing support for the interesting period of creativity and cutting-edge design currently being enjoyed by the fashion industries in these countries, promoting their ideas both in Europe and throughout the rest of the world. High-Quality Fashion Quality, design and innovation are the characteristics that best define the fashion ideas brought together at the last edition of SIMM. In total, the exhibition featured some 1,440 men's clothing, women's clothing, lingerie, swimwear and accessory collections for next Spring-Summer 2007 Season, presented by 877 companies, of which 221 were foreign. The net exhibition area came to around 32,000 square metres, distributed throughout Halls 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 at Feria de Madrid. Among the exhibitors, the most outstanding names such as Elisa Cortés, Cabotine, Guerral, Guitare, Oky-Coky, Fuentecapala, Selvatgi, Blue Ribbon, Onara, Hucke Woman, Olsen, Marc Aurel, Chupa Chups, Wear Me Baby, Pablo y Mayaya Sombreros, Verili or Elena Cáncer. A special section within the fair was occupied by the Artistic Association of National Fashion Designers from Spain (ADÑ), whose official presentation took place on the first day of SIMM. Made up of a number of well-known names within the field of fashion in Spain, such as Antonio Alvarado, Ion Fiz, Locking Shocking, Carlos Díez, Juanjo Oliva, Rocabert, Carmen March and La Casita de Wendy, ADÑ presented its members' collections in a joint section within the fair. In order to enable professionals to gain easier access to the collections that interested them most, SIMM structured its extensive fashion exhibition around various different specialised sections. Thus, men's fashion was presented in Espacio Hombre; the highest-category companies featured in the area known as BOUTIQUE (Trend, Class and Evolution), whilst ESPACIO CIBELES hosted the presence of a number of prestigious designers. Y+ presented the latest trends from the highest-category accessory companies, whilst the YOUNG DESIGNERS FORUM presented a number of new talents within Spanish and international design. This section of the fair was complemented by LA GALERIA, featuring highly popular consumer brands aimed at the active, urban woman. INTIMA-MODA-BAÑO presented the swimwear, underwear, lingerie and corsetry companies. Women's medium-category sport and city-wear collections were presented at IMAGENMODA; CIEN X CIEN exhibited the latest casual and youth fashion ideas, and INTERMODA presented Inter-Season Fashion, featuring the collections for Autumn-Winter 2006/07. Clothing and Design: In Constant Development The Spanish clothing industry is currently undergoing a number of important changes, as reflected by the economic report on the industry produced by SIMM based on figures furnished by the Textile and Clothes Manufacturing Information Centre (CITYC). Last year, the production value of Spanish companies working within the field of clothes manufacturing came to 11,650 million euros. In total, some 6,300 companies are devoted to clothes manufacturing in Spain, employing more than 223,000 people. At this edition of SIMM, which focused on the ideas for the Spring-Summer 2007 Season, the lingerie, corsetry and swimwear sectors played an especially prominent role. According to the CITYC, demand for these items increased by 19%, based on a total of 447 million items of clothing. SIMM, at the Madrid International Fashion Week The next edition of the Madrid International Fashion Fair, SIMM, will take place at Feria de Madrid between 16th and 18th February 2007, featuring the Autumn-Winter 2007/2008 collections. We should also mention the fact that SIMM is preparing an important new change for the September 2007 edition of the fair, which will consist of a new segmentation based on different women's fashion styles. SIMM is part of the MADRID INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEK, the grand setting for the staging of the different fairs organized by IFEMA. Such as the PASARELA CIBELES, the grand promotional forum for Spanish fashion; the EGO DE PASARELA CIBELES, for young fashion talents; SIPIEL, International Leather Week, featuring its fairs MODACALZADO and IBERPIEL MARROQUINERIA, and TEXTILMODA, Textile Fashion Show.
