Automechanika continues to grow as an international brand
Gateway to 'emerging markets'
Messe Frankfurt continues to consolidate its international network of successful trade fairs for the automobile industry. Today, nine fairs on four continents are distinguished by the 'Automechanika' seal of quality. These events give medium-sized companies of the automobile industry a safe toehold in the markets of the future and, for local companies, open the doors to the world market.
The spectrum of products to be seen at the individual Automechanika fairs is tailored to the needs of the market concerned and can including replacement and original parts, workshop & filling-station equipment and accessories, as well as cars and trucks. Depending on their orientation, these events give international exhibitors access to local, regional and international markets.
Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt since October 2004 and responsible for the Automechanika: "Today, the Automechanika brand stands worldwide for successful fairs in the aftermarket and automotive OEM sector. In 2002, we welcomed a total of 840 exhibitors and 106,000 visitors to our Automechanika fairs. By last year, the totals had risen to 1,800 exhibitors and 140,000 visitors – not counting the world's leading trade fair for the sector, the Automechanika in Frankfurt. We offer our customers both: knowledge of the international automobile sector and expertise in trade-fair marketing. Our aim is to provide our exhibitors with a uniform standard of quality at all our fairs." In the future, explained Braun, Messe Frankfurt will continue to expand the brand uncompromisingly and include other products in the mobility core area of competence, such as the Korea Railway & Logistics Fair and Expotransporte in Mexico. Naturally, a success-oriented brand strategy also includes leaving a market should an event not be profitable in the long term. Besides classic product presentations, almost each Automechanika also includes an 'Automechanika Academy' and a 'Match-Making' programme. The 'Automechanika Academy' is a high-grade conference programme covering subjects relating to the regional and international automobile markets. The 'Match Making' programme helps global and local manufacturers to make contact with potential business partners. The next Automechanika Frankfurt, the leading international trade fair for the automotive aftermarket and the original equipment market, will be held in Frankfurt am Main from 12 - 17 September 2006. Around 4,500 exhibitors and 164,000 trade visitors attended the last event in 2004. The extensive range of products and services at Automechanika 2006 will be grouped in four main sections: 'Parts & Systems', Accessories & Tuning', 'Repair & Maintenance' and 'Service Station & Car Wash'. The Automechanika is the international hub for automotive innovations and this is where exhibitors present their latest products for the first time. The leading fair in Frankfurt also profits from the export of the brand because more visitors come to Frankfurt from those countries where Automechanika fairs are held. Aftermarket and original equipment fifty-fifty The fact that Messe Frankfurt continuously expands its worldwide network of fairs for the automobile sectors is demonstrated convincingly by the première of Automechanika Thailand in Bangkok form 10 to 13 May 2006. According to Detlef Braun, the timing of Messe Frankfurt's advance into Thailand is absolutely perfect. Both the demand and the supply sides of the automobile sector want a professional platform such as the Automechanika, to facilitate trade and to maximum market potential. Today, Thailand is already the biggest automobile manufacturer in Southeast Asia and all the signs point to rapid and enduring growth. Automechanika Thailand is being organised by Messe Frankfurt in cooperation with the IPEX fair and exhibition company, Thailand. The organisers anticpate around 400 exhibitors and 10,000 visitors at the première. Automechanika Asia, 6 to 9 April 2005, was held for the first time in Malaysia in 2003 and attracted 115 exhibitors from 18 countries and 3,515 visitors from 46 countries. Malaysia is the biggest car-manufacturing country in the ASEAN free-trade zone. In this connection, Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt, explains: "We have shifted the fair from Singapore to Malaysia. The associated re-launch was a great success thanks to the support of the Malaysian government and important associations, such as MATRADE and MAPAC." Despite the Iraq crisis, Automechanika Istanbul 2003 was a great success. This shows that the international automobile industry still considers Turkey to be an important growth market. Over 400 exhibitors and around 19,000 visitors came to the fair on the banks of the Bosporus. The next Automechanika Istanbul will be held from 21 to 24 April 2005. Parallel to Automechanika Istanbul, Messe Frankfurt and its joint-venture partners hold Petroleum Istanbul, the trade fair for extracting, transporting, refining and distributing mineral oil and natural gas. Automechanika Shanghai made its debut in December 2004 and attracted 235 exhibitors and over 9,100 visitors, 15 percent of them from outside China. "European and American manufacturers and suppliers have noticed that China cannot be treated as a single huge market and that each individual region must be tackled individually. The industry needs an Automechanika in Shanghai", explains Stephan Buurma, General Manager of Messe Frankfurt Hong Kong. The next Automechanika Shanghai is scheduled to be held in December 2006. For the aftermarket only Automechanika Gulf in Dubai from 28 - 30 May 2005 is held annually. Detlef Braun: "With Automechanika Gulf, we have launched a fair in one of the most affluent regions of the world. The standard of living in the United Arab Emirates is very high and equipping and servicing automobiles is an important aspect of this." The last Automechanika Gulf attracted 305 exhibitors and 5,492 visitors. Automechanika China in Beijing from 23 to 26 November 2005 is an established trade fair for the regional aftermarket, which will be held for fifth time in 2005. The product range focuses on workshop equipment. 366 exhibitors and almost 16,000 trade visitors come to the last Automechanika China. The region around Beijing is one of the most affluent areas of China and the number of vehicles is growing all the time. Original equipment predominates Thanks to the cooperation with the Mexican Automotive Parts Association (INA) and the American MEMA, SEMA and APRA associations, PAACE Automechanika Mexico in Mexico City from 13 to 15 July 2005 is Central America's most important trade fair for original equipment. 463 exhibitors and over 15,000 visitors attended the last edition of this annual event. A great success was the 'Congreso Internacional de la Industria Automotriz en México' (CIIAM), which was held parallel to the trade fair. Detlef Braun on the expectations: "Mexico is still one of the world's most dynamic automobile markets. The Mexican government offers favourable conditions for foreign investors. Mexico is the only country in the world where European, Asian and American technology is made in parallel. Furthermore, it represents a bridge between North and South America." The aftermarket predominates Accounting for 80 percent, the aftermarket will dominate at Automechanika Argentina in Buenos Aires from 15 to 18 November 2006. The 2004 edition of the international trade fair for the Mercosur region and Latin America was a great success with 411 exhibitors and over 32,000 visitors. It exercised a great power of attraction on important international companies from the automotive sector, such as Sachs, Fiat, Bosch and MANN+HUMMEL. With the integration of the 'Expo Lubricentro' and 'Expomecánica' fairs, Automechanika Argentina has effectively expanded its position in the South American market. Motor show with aftermarket products The 13th Auto + Automechanika St. Petersburg, which will be held in St. Petersburg from 26 to 30 October 2005, is a local motor show with a range of aftermarket products for the Northwest region of Russia, which is distinguished by an above-average standard of living. The St. Petersburg region is the economic hub for imports of new vehicles and parts, which are then distributed throughout Russia. Thus, many international automobile manufacturers use the fair to present their latest products for the Russian market and to expand their local network of dealers. 364 exhibitors and over 78,000 visitors, 15,157 of them trade visitors, took part in the last Auto & AutomechaniGateway to 'emerging markets' Messe Frankfurt continues to consolidate its international network of successful trade fairs for the automobile industry.
