CeBIT 2008: Competition opens for Convergators’ Awards 2008
Award honors personal achievements in area of convergence

Dedicated to honoring exceptional success in the area of convergence, the annual Convergators’ Awards were introduced in 2006. The awards are not geared primarily to technological breakthroughs, but rather to the personal achievements of creators of convergent products and services. In 2008 the awards ceremony will take place at the Convergators’ Gala during CeBIT (Tuesday, 4 March to Sunday, 9 March) in Hannover, Germany. As the digital world’s flagship show, CeBIT has for years been considered the leading showcase for convergence — i.e. the convergence of networks, equipment and applications — in information technology, telecommunications and consumer electronics. The deadline for applying personally or nominating another candidate is 29 June 2007.
The Convergators’ Awards are presented in four different categories: Digital Living, Mobile Content, Cross-media Marketing and Telematics & Navigation. The initiators of the awards are BITKOM (the German Association for Information Technology, Telecommunications and New Media), Deutsche Messe (organizers of CeBIT), consultants Ernst & Young, FOCUS news magazine, w&v magazine, the FOCUS Online Web portal and the Serviceplan agency group.
A high-class jury consisting of 14 members — chaired again this year by FOCUS Editor-in-Chief Uli Baur — will select the final winners.
The selection of prizewinners takes place in two stages: In the first stage, an eight-person subset of the jury selects three finalists per category. These 12 finalists are then invited to present their projects at the Convergators' Summit on 10 October 2007 in Berlin. Here the finalists present themselves not only to a specialist audience, but also to the full jury, which then proceeds to select one winner per category.
At the Convergators' Gala at CeBIT 2008, where the main awards and a “public favorite” prize will be presented, the “Convergator of the Year”, selected from the four main winners, will also be announced.
