Deutsche Energie-Agentur GmbH (dena) and Deutsche Messe will be presenting the Energy Efficiency Award for the first time to kick off the World Energy Dialogue in style.

The award is endowed with prize money of Euro 20,000 and is awarded to companies from trade and industry that have implemented a "top reference project" characterized by exemplary and innovative energy and cost efficiency.
The following criteria are used for the evaluation:
Energy efficiency (energy consumption in relation to output)
Cost effectiveness (costs in relation to energy saved)
Level of innovation of the reference project
Transferability to other companies
Sustainability in relation to climate protection (potential for reducing greenhouse gases)
A panel of judges comprising representatives from industry, politics, the business press and the energy industry assesses the projects that are submitted.
The energy efficiency competition is part of the "EnergyEfficiency Initiative" supported by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
