Hogatec 2006 offers its exhibitors and visitors first-hand insights into successful concepts in new markets

Hogatec, International Trade Fair Hotels, Gastronomy, Catering, has set its sights high. In order to help its exhibitors and visitors gain insights into successful concepts used in new markets, the Düsseldorf trade fair will be backing various business trips: The first fact-finding tour is bound for Dubai and Malaysia from 27 October to 4 November 2005.

The travel package is targeted at interested hoteliers, restaurateurs and representatives of the wellness industry - in other words, hogatec visitors. A second trip east is being planned for 13 to 18 November 2005, to coincide with the Food & Hotel China (FHC) trade fair, to be staged in Shanghai. What's more, hogatec is also one of the forces behind an educational trip that promises to draw back the curtain on the enormous tourism growth markets of Qatar, Oman and the United Arab Emirates for suppliers to the industry (i.e. hogatec exhibitors) at the start of 2006.
Messe Düsseldorf GmbH, organiser of hogatec, and the North Rhine-Westphalian branch of the Deutscher Hotel- und Gaststättenverband (German Hotels and Restaurants Association - DEHOGA) are jointly coordinating the trip slated for autumn this year to Dubai and Malaysia and aimed at hoteliers, restaurateurs and representatives of the wellness industry. Both destinations have blazed a trail in the development of winning concepts for the hospitality industry and are models for hotel management and catering as well as wellness philosophies. hogatec hopes through specialist field trips, tours of companies' operations and product presentations to immerse its visitor target groups in the exotic Arabic and Malaysian cities, cultures and catering concepts, thus inspiring them with original approaches and ideas for their own businesses.
The second fact-finding tour to China will be organised by the Industrie-Förderung Gesellschaft (foundation for promotion of industry - IFG), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Bundesverband der deutschen Industrie (Federation of German Industries - BDI), and carried out under the auspices of hogatec, the hospitality industry initiative within DEHOGA, Bundesverband der Deutschen Tourismuswirtschaft (Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry - BTW) and the Delegation
of German Industry & Commerce in Beijing and Shanghai. Growth in China is not only broad-based but also fast-paced. The tourism and leisure industries are also enjoying dynamic development. Even in 2003, the year marred by SARS, China still made fifth and seventh place in the world rankings as an international holiday destination and in terms of foreign currency receipts from tourism, respectively. At the latest by 2007, the country will have entered the global top three in both categories. This boom unlocks new opportunities for suppliers and service providers in the tourism and recreation industries. Already, new hotels and tourist offers are popping up across the country as part of international cooperations. In the megacities of Beijing and Shanghai alone, accommodation in the four- and five-star categories is being increased by 51 hotels and just under 15,000 rooms with a view to the major upcoming events - the 2008 Olympics and EXPO 2010.
The third tour scouts out the Gulf region where the tourism and leisure industries also continue to advance by leaps and bounds. Demand is particularly robust in the emirate of Dubai with its more than 300 hotels, each boasting up to 40 restaurants, discotheques, sports clubs or shopping malls. But Qatar and Oman also have excellent opportunities for development in the region. Congress and conference business is pivotal in Qatar, where the ribbons on eight new four- and five-star hotels are to be cut in the near future. Oman's rich potential for long-term appeal as a tourist destination lies primarily in its cultural heritage and natural beauty. As the world's No. 1 technology and design trade fair for the hospitality industry, hogatec is lending its support to the fact-finding programmes offered by this trip as is the hospitality industry initiative within DEHOGA. The BDI is the coordinator. hogatec aims through these travel packages to open a window on new markets for exhibitors, allowing them to visit and experience the destinations first hand.
