InnoTrans 2006: International show includes debut of new locomotives and record-breaking rail technology
International shop window for innovations and new trends, from 19 to 22 September 2006 in Berlin
A dazzling array of world’s firsts and innovations awaits visitors to the InnoTrans 2006 from 19 to 22 September in Berlin. Some 1,600 exhibitors from 40 countries will be showing their latest products and services on 120,000 square metres of indoor and outdoor display areas. Several high-powered locomotives and the latest generation of high-tech trains will be parked on Messe Berlin’s own modern rail tracks for the duration of the fair.
The exhibitors represent a good cross-section of the entire industry and include global systems suppliers, medium-sized firms and small enterprises offering specialised products and services to meet individual requirements. The exhibits at InnoTrans 2006 will include: The Regio CITADIS, being built by ALSTOM Transport for the city of Kassel – the world’s first hybrid regional light railway running on standard gauge track, which can operate on the urban network as a tram and in outlying regions as a diesel multiple unit. Among the company’s other exhibits are the CORADIA LIREX light railway for the greater Stockholm region, at 107 metres the longest light railway train in the world, the prototype of a hybrid locomotive and the electric PRIMA locomotive. Typifying its wide-ranging expertise in the field of modernisation and conversion, Deutsche Bahn AG is presenting a modernised series ET 420 light railway train and number of different conversions of mainline passenger carriages. An intercity train for conducting measurements, the Mess-ICE, is being presenting by the test divisions of DB Technical Systems. Siemens Transportation Systems is presenting the Velaro E, which has been developed for the Spanish railway company RENFE, emphasising the worldwide success of its Velaro platform for high speed trains. Making their first public outing at the InnoTrans 2006 are the Rh1216 three-systems locomotive for ÖBB and the Asiarunner AR 15 for Vietnam, introducing a new locomotive platform which has been specially developed for the one-metre gauge market. Vossloh Transportation Systems is introducing Europe’s most powerful diesel electric locomotive, the Euro 4000 from its Spanish works near Valencia. Vossloh IT is also showing the latest applications of a development that is now ready for series production, the “electronic ink” for stationary and mobile passenger information displays. Power collector and wheel tensioner The British company Atlas Rail Components is presenting a new tram catenary system at InnoTrans 2006 which offers substantial savings for network operators, planning departments and contractors. ContiTech AG is presenting its GIGABOX, a specially designed system comprising wheelset bearings and hydraulic suspension for freight trains that reduces noise and pollution and improves safety even at high speeds. The arc-resistant power collector from Hoffmann & Co. Elektrokohle AG for ICE 3 intercity trains consists of a three-sided, carbon-coated, aluminium supporting arm which successfully proved itself during the winter of 2005/2006 on the Frankfurt-Cologne route. Among the highlights from INIT GmbH at the fair are the newly developed multimedia display for the PIDvisio train, the combined ticket printer / on-board computer EVENDsmart and the TOUCHbill mobile automated ticket dispenser. Making its debut at the InnoTrans 2006 is a study for an almost fully automated wheelchair hoist for trains from MBB Liftsystems, which represents a major advance in remotely controlled boarding systems. The new design of a wheel tensioner with integrated cable brake from RIBE – Richard Bergner Elektroarmaturen GmbH & Co. KG enables direct braking of the weight-operated cable in the guide roller. Member firms of RIO Regionales Innovationsbündnis Oberhavel e.V. have spent the past two years developing a front end module made of expanded aluminium as a prototype for the new ITINO multiple unit from Bombardier Transportation. Sécheron SA from Switzerland is showing seven new products at the fair, including the MACS multi-purpose AC switch, the UR40DV dual voltage switch, the RS roof disconnecter and the SEPCOS-NG digital protection and control unit for DC switching units. The fully digitally compensated servo-accelerometer from Sensorex S.A., France, is built into the train’s odometer system and enables the ideal braking curve to be calculated with great precision. UniControls a.s. is based in Prague and will be represented at InnoTrans 2006 by a new concept in railway control and monitoring systems, “UniTrack“. The digital Verint mDVR series of video recorders from Verint Video Solutions GmbH has been developed for mobile use in buses and on trains and provides an extremely high standard of video monitoring. Software and design The SCADE-Suite™ from Esterel Technologies GmbH is a model-based development environment for safety-critical embedded software. The vehicle control management software being exhibited by Herbert Gehrisch Elektrotechnik GmbH provides uninterrupted supervision of all tests conducted on locomotives and rolling stock. CEMIS® – Central Market Information System - consists of software for the railway market and for forecasting which its exhibitor, IFB Institut für Bahntechnik GmbH, has developed as a professional tool for the world’s railway markets. Teccon GmbH & Co. KG is currently engaged in producing the first complete 3D generation of an entire freight car on behalf of a leading manufacturer. The Essentials-Line from Lantal Textiles in Switzerland offers a number of impressive features, including a carefully coordinated selection of textiles, augmented by the use of real and synthetic leather, which can be used for example for seating upholstery, carpets, wall and ceiling coverings. The interiors for the new Beijing airport shuttle, due to begin operating in early 2008, are the work of TRICON Design AG. Keen interest in tours to examine the latest innovations Following a successful introduction at the InnoTrans 2004 tours will again be organized by the editorial staff of the InnoTrans Report to enable trade visitors to view the latest innovations. They will take place four times each day and will last roughly 90 minutes. The “Railway Technology, Public Transport, Interiors“ tours will start each day at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and at 11.15 a.m. and 3.15 p.m. trade visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about “Infrastructure und Tunnel Construction“. All these tours will start and end in the Business Lounge and will be conducted in two languages, German and English. Applicants should enquire at the Business Lounge.
