Manga Rosa allows birds to fly

There’s nothing surprising about a dancer and an actress being fascinated by both movement and balance.

It is in Brazil that Raphaëlle Barbet learned to make paper birds according to the Japanese technique of origami. In her hands, the winged creatures transform themselves into "jewels for the home" that can be suspended in the form of mobiles, to be clipped-on or pinned-on. A creation that is "delicately useless and subtly ephemeral", where one thing leading to another, she poetically combines paper, beads, feathers and found objects in order to bring life to these sensitive creations which earned her the Découvertes (Discoveries) prize during the last January session of MAISON&OBJET. Le Bon Marché department store as well as many other boutiques has adopted these poetic winged creatures which she conceives as "symbolic objects, the Japanese crane representing the bird of peace, longevity and fertility". Brands such as Réminiscences or Veuve Clicquot are soliciting her imagination for creations to be used during publicity events such as a spectacular mobile spanning 3.50 metres. "I’m sometimes under the impression of living out a dream", admits this native of Marseilles by adoption, who wants to develop a more luxurious line of "charm boxes" in partnership with the artist Michel Bresson.
