Marble and design: a meeting hallmarked by Marmomacc

Friday 2 March - presentation with selected architects-designers and companies From Odile Decq to Shin Azumi - designers are taking up the challenge: can marble be lightweight? Their works will be presented in a special section of the exhibition, scheduled next 4-7 October

Can marble be lightweight? This challenge is launched by Marmomacc (www.marmomacc.com), the most important sector exhibition in the world (65 thousand operators, of which 40% international from 112 countries, more than 1,500 exhibitors from 52 countries over a net area of 70 thousand square metres), organised by VeronaFiere, that on Friday 5th March will be a Design project to a group of invited companies including some of the most important in the Italian and international panorama.

And this challenge has so far been taken up by nine "internationally famous" architects-designers - certain to be joined soon by other colleagues - identified among the most creative professionals engaged in research and experimentation: Tobia Scarpa (Italy), Odile Decq (France), Michele De Lucchi (Italy), Aldo Cibic (Italy), Marco Piva (Italy), Simone Micheli (Italy), Denis Santachiara (Italy), Riccardo Blumer (Switzerland), Shin Azumi (Japan).

"The exhibition has for some time set in motion a series of initiatives designed to modify the perception of marble-stone products among end consumers," said Flavio Piva, Co-Director General and Market Director. In this regard," Piva went on, "it is essential to create a new culture of stone and marble, that are by no means static materials - but exciting and elegant products for interior furnishing articles in the home."

All the projects developed around the theme of “The Lightness of Marble” will be presented during the coming edition of Marmomacc, 4-7 October 2007, with the title “Marmomacc Meets Design”.
