24.Bi-Mu/Sfortec: the trade show promoted by Ucimu-sistemi per produrre proves to be a not to be missed event for the Manufacturing industry. Promoted by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, 24.BI-MU/SFORTEC took place from 1 to 6 October 2004 at the Milan Trade Fair and confirmed its ability to capture the attention of the world manufacturing industry. The event proposed a comprehensive view of the machine tool, robotics, automation industry and related production (NC, tools, components, accessories), along with a view of the subcontracting industry, which can contribute to the technological evolution of enterprise, specialised shows, conference sessions, and specialised initiatives. Stars of the event were the 1,922 exhibitors, set up in the 13 pavilions on a total exhibition surface of 72,629 square meters.

The foreign turnout was impressive: 40% of the companies were from abroad (representing 30 countries), confirming the international scope of the event. Even more impressive were the numbers of registered visitors, more than 80,000 in the six days of the event. Despite the difficult international economic situation and BI-MU’s proximity to EMO Milan, held last year, these numbers confirm BI-MU again to be a not to be missed event for operators from the entire sector. Italian visitors rubbed elbows with about 4,000 foreign visitors from over 84 nations on all five continents. Approximately 150 users, commercial operators, and foreign experts operating in 16 of the main buying markets, both established and emerging, were invited by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE, in co-operation with ICE and PROMOS to participate in the 5,000 meetings organized with Italian exhibitors. Centrepiece of the event was the twenty-fourth edition of BI-MU, which has earned itself a reputation in the machine tool sector as the "world show on the even years," alternating with EMO in lending continuity to the discussion and dialogue between the supply and demand of innovation, stimulating the definition of increasingly advanced solutions. BI-MU represents an authoritative voice in the technological evolution of the sector, proven by the large number of participants: a total of 1,833 manufacturing companies participated in BI-MU, including 1,077 direct exhibitors, 290 of which were agents and representatives; the "foreign contingent" included 777 companies from 30 countries; the exhibition space exceeded 70,868 square meters; the 4,000 machines displayed was valued at 350 million euros. The innovations of the 24th BI-MU were twinned with SFORTEC, the technical subcontracting, components and structural processing event promoted by CIS-COMITATO INTERASSOCIATIVO SUBFORNITURA, which witnessed the participation of one hundred exhibitors. The specialized shows that characterized the 24.BI-MU/SFORTEC were THE WORLD OF WELDING, AMMTECH: THE WORLD OF ASSEMBLY, a show that enjoys the sponsorship of AIDA, the Italian Assembly Association, and THE WORLD OF DIES AND MOULDS. Now an established tradition, QUALITY BRIDGE provided professionals the opportunity to learn more about the issues and topics related to quality and innovation in production. Again this year, promoting the meeting of young people and machine tools was the focus of PLANET YOUTH (PIANETA GIOVANI), an initiative developed as part of the FACTORY FOR MAN project, through which the FONDAZIONE UCIMU introduces students to the real perspective in the machine tool sector, one of the most interesting and richest in occupational prospects. Proving the validity of the initiatives developed by UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE for young people, was the presence of about 12,000 students, accompanied by their professors, who were able to visit the event and learn more about the industry through the areas of PLANET YOUTH. The section provided information related to training courses and collaboration between academia and enterprise and used the totems of the "VIRTUAL FACTORY" (on line through the event web site and also on www.ucimu.it) to inform about the complexities of the car engine. As usual, the 24.BI-MU catalogue is available in the printed form and in the electronic version, accessible from the event web site (www.bimu-sfortec.com) that links to the Expopage portal, created by Fiera Milano and by the organizers of the major trade show events in the Lombard capital. Expopage offers operators a virtual stand and unique opportunities to make contact with a broad business community, multiplying their means of contact.
