Sipiel modifies its dates for 2007 in order to consolidate its position on the european circuit

The first event of the year to present the collections for Autumn-Winter 2007/08, will take place between 23rd and 25th March INTERNATIONAL FOOTWEAR AND LEATHER GOODS WEEK, SIPIEL, which is made up of the fairs known as MODACALZADO and IBERPIEL MARROQUINERIA, has decided to change the dates on which its two editions next year take place, bringing the fair closer to the other two grand European events for the industry. With this change, the fair seeks to strengthen its position on the international fair circuit, as well as facilitating the visit of trade buyers, especially from abroad.

The change of dates corresponds to the proposal that was formulated by the Organising Committee of MODACALZADO and IBERPIEL MARROQUINERÍA, the two fairs that make up SIPIEL, as well as by the trade associations for the two industries and the majority of the events' exhibitors. With these changes, the next edition of SIPIEL, which will present the collections that are likely to set the trend for the Autumn-Winter 2007/08 season, will take place a week earlier than the initially-planned dates, namely between Friday 23rd and Sunday 25th March, immediately after MICAM and MIPEL.
In order to make this change possible, IFEMA has had to modify the dates of other fairs taking place at Feria de Madrid on the same dates and also change the location of these events. For its part, SIPIEL has also had to make some changes in order to adapt to this new calendar. The main change refers to the location of the exhibition, which, solely for the forthcoming edition, will move from the even-numbered side of the fairground to the odd-numbered side. In spite of these modifications, the organisers will attempt to preserve the internal layout that each of the halls has presented to date. This new SIPIEL location, with the entire fair located on the odd-numbered side of the fairground, will facilitate the circulation of trade visitors throughout the various different sections that make up the exhibition.
A Favourable Reception from Exhibitors
The exhibitors have warmly welcomed this change, considering it to be an opportune and appropriate measure. This much has been stated by Vicente Pastor, the Marketing Director for Rebeca Sanver, who believes that the staging of SIPIEL closer to other European fairs will "facilitate the attendance of foreign clients, such as those who come from the Arab countries, buyers who demand a high-quality and, therefore, high-priced, product".
Diego Pérez, the Creative Director at Grupo Hergar (Callaghan), also believes this change of dates to be appropriate, stating that "this could make SIPIEL the reference-point fair for footwear, not only in Spain, where it already enjoys this privilege, but throughout Europe". Jaime Carbonell, the Manager of Grupo Danubio (Wonders) and President of the Footwear Association of Elche, expressed himself along similar lines, adding that "this decision was also determined by the proximity of Easter Week".
Ignacio Ñíguez, Sales Head at Pikolinos Intercontinental, has called this change of dates "essential, because the tendency is to prepare collections earlier and earlier, which means that the earlier the Madrid fair takes place, the greater the interest it holds for the trade".
Children's footwear may also benefit from the new dates in March, given that, according to Jesús Martín-Caro, Marketing Director at Calzados Pablo (Pablosky), the new dates are "completely beneficial at a trade level".
El Dantés believes it is a very good idea to bring SIPIEL closer to the other two grand international events for the industry. Mª José Sicuter, Head of Sales at the brand, hopes that this measure will also "help to consolidate the national market throughout 2007 and boost the attendance of foreign clients".
The September Edition Will Take Place between Thursday and Saturday
Within this context of changes, SIPIEL's second edition of the year, featuring the latest ideas for Spring-Summer 2008, will take place between 27th and 29th September, once again being  staged between Thursday and Saturday, thus bringing the fair one day closer to MICAM. At the same time, this change will facilitate the presence of foreign buyers, who are more likely to visit fairs on working days than on the weekend. At this edition, the fair will take place in its habitual halls: 4, 6, 8, 9 and 10 at Feria de Madrid.
Magda Pons, Manageress of the company Pons Quintana, is in favour of SIPIEL taking place between Thursday and Saturday. Her opinion is shared by Ignacio Ñíguez, from Pikolinos, and Juan Mascaró, Head of Fratelli Rossetti-Gomila, who is also strongly in favour of boosting the domestic market and the presence of small Spanish clients.
The change of dates is equally beneficial to the leather goods sector. According to Félix Bellido, Chairman of the Organising Committee of IBERPIEL MARROQUINERÍA and President of Olimpo and Miguel Bellido, "staging the fair between Thursday and Saturday enables the owners of traditional establishments to visit SIPIEL, traders who do not wish to leave their businesses unattended on the weekend, so that they do not lose any business opportunities". According to Bellido "this is another way of coming into line with international fairs, that increasingly tend to take place on working days".
