Among the activities planned for this edition, we might mention the First International Congress on the Prevention of Environmental Conflicts and Disasters, organised by ATEGRUS, the New Features Forum, the Specialized Conferences and various roundtables, among other events
TEM TECMA 2006, the International Town-Planning and Environment Fair, organised by IFEMA, will stage its thirteenth edition between 13th and 16th June 2006 at Feria de Madrid.  This fair, a leading event in Spain, will occupy a gross exhibition area measuring 43,230 square metres in Halls 4, 6 and 8. So far, some 198 direct exhibitors have confirmed their participation at the fair, representing 335 companies, which makes a total of 533 companies.
At this year's edition we might highlight the strong international dimension that the fair has acquired, based on the presence of exhibitors from 17 countries: Germany, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the USA, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
With still three months to go before the staging of the trade fair itself, Tem Tecma has already contracted 86% of the space available. With regard to the various sectors present at the fair, the most strongly represented include the following: the Treatment of Solid Waste and Other Forms of Pollution, accounting for 31% of the occupied exhibition area, and Urban Equipment, accounting for 22%.
Furthermore, coinciding with the trade exhibition, the fair will provide the setting for the staging of a number of different trade events and activities, which will tackle some of the aspects of greatest concern to the industry. In this respect, we might mention the New Features Forum, which will take place every day of the fair in an area specially set aside for this purpose. This Forum will provide an ideal setting for the exhibitors to present the most innovative and latest-generation products for improving our cities and the environment in a series of thirty-minute conferences.
Another event will also coincide with the fair: the Fourth TEM TECMA Specialized Conferences, organised by the Spanish Association of Public Parks and Gardens, AEPJP, will take place on 15th June, under the slogan "Approach to the Management of Historical Gardening". These conferences will feature the participation of a number of experts within the field of gardening and landscape gardening.
For its part, the Technical Association for Waste Management and the Environment, ATEGRUS, will once again play a leading role at the fair, organizing a number of different conferences and trade meetings. As a new feature, we might highlight the First International Congress on the Prevention of Environmental Conflicts and Disasters, PRECEDES 2006, which will take place on 13th and 14th June. The aim of this congress is to lay the foundations for the creation of an observatory that all members of the profession associated with this field are invited to join, one that will help to predict and solve environmental conflicts and disasters, with a view to minimizing their consequences. At the present time, this initiative is supported by the following bodies: the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives, ICLEI; the International Maritime Organisation; the United Nations, through UNEP, the United Nations Environment Programme, and many other bodies in other countries.
This association will also organize the Al Invest Sectorial Meeting on "Management of Waste, Water and Urban Cleanliness". At this meeting, 25 Latin American small and medium-sized companies from the sectors of urban equipment, circulation and transport, parks, urban cleanliness and water treatment, etc., will hold talks with 75 European companies with a view to establishing trading links.
Finally, the fair will also present its traditional  Brush Awards to the cleanest towns and cities and those that have the most efficient waste management schemes. An exhibition on Waste and Art will also be staged, at which visitors will be able to see a model of the Roman Aqueduct in Segovia measuring 10 metres in length and 8 metres in height, made out of used tins.
Roundtables
The trade fair will also provide the setting for the organisation of two roundtables on highly innovative themes within the field. The first will be entitled "Traditional Public Spaces and New Spaces", which will tackle aspects such as environmental aesthetics, graffiti and the night-time scene, not to mention special cultural events such as the "tomato fights" of Buñol, the celebration of football victories in city fountains, vandalism, kaleborroka and aggressive publicity, among others.
The second roundtable, entitled "Transformation of Communities through Community Spirit and Art", will tackle the themes of good civic citizenship and art within the context of urban conflict, as well as the transformation of urban art through community channels, aimed at improving the aesthetic appeal and atmosphere of our towns and cities.
