Textilmoda offers a preview of the latest trends

Spring-Summer 2008 will offer us an explosion of colour, based on a triumphant combination of textiles and a fusion of styles and cultures, according to the predictions made for the fair regarding the new season by the Institute for Business Innovation of the Balearic Islands (IDI)

TEXTILMODA, the International Textile Fashion Show, will once again become an ideal showcase for the latest trends during its twelfth edition, which is due to take place between 28th February and 2nd March at Feria de Madrid. The connecting area in Hall 1 will provide the setting on this occasion for the presentation of the latest ideas in prints, colours and materials for Spring-Summer 2008, based on the participation of more than 90 companies specialising in textiles and adornments at this edition. These participants will once again include the leading Spanish textile companies and a considerable number of foreign representatives.

Once again at this edition the Trends Forum will be one of the main points of interest for professionals visiting the fair. This section, which will be organised for the first time by the Institute for Business Innovation of the Balearic Islands (IDI), will maintain its habitual aim of bringing together more than 1,000 real samples of textiles and adornments presented by the exhibiting companies. In this respect, before they begin their tour of the stands, visitors will be able to gain a wide-ranging insight into the new features that are due to hit the fashion scene a good year in advance.  Furthermore, during the course of the fair, professionals will be able to acquire the Trends Booklet published by TEXTILMODA, featuring comprehensive information regarding the colours, textiles and styles for the new season.

Trends Presented within Four Wide-Ranging Themes

According to the ideas proposed by the IDI for TEXTILMODA, Spring-Summer 2008 will offer us an explosion of colour in which anything goes. Thus, a strong and fresh new direction will lead us towards a future characterised by an explosion of design and creativity, ushering in a new season structured around four themes: SENSITIVE SIMPLICITY, ORGANIC BEAUTY, LEISURE CHIC and EXPRESSIVE NAÏVE.

SENSITIVE SIMPLICITY

Cotton and linen will play a prominent role in this theme. The textiles will offer a sober and minimalist, but highly ingenious, appeal. With regard to the patterns, small designs repeated throughout the clothing item will triumph. Buttons will acquire considerable importance due to their large size, serving as adornments alongside large frills. Grey, green and burgundy shades will dominate. We will also come across touches of sandy shades. We can visualise a modern and highly feminine woman accompanied by a man with an up-to-date yet romantic look, based on clothing items of light and airy appeal.

ORGANIC BEAUTY

This theme will opt for natural textiles that are also highly sophisticated: satin and linen. Everything will be very shiny, based on a futuristic touch. The predominant colours in this trend include the entire range of greens and browns. The textiles will be fill of patterns: checks,  blurred stripes, graffiti, plant ambiences, flowers and leather, stamped and in relief. Buttons and adornments will feature resin, pearls, ivory and, on occasion, they will imitate geometric designs.

The clothing items will be soft, comfortable and voluminous. Women will sport a generous cleavage and men will appear in three-quarter-sleeve jerseys and ballooned trousers.

LEISURE CHIC

Under this theme we will come across the most daring and amusing ideas. A combination of materials and contrasts is updated with new ideas in jean fabric (worn and dyed) accompanied by more sophisticated materials. In short, a highly distinctive dress-sense will enable the wearer to survive in the daily jungle, based on a perfectly free and casual chic appeal.

As far as patterns are concerned, we will find stripes everywhere (sailor's stripes, horizontal stripes, coloured stripes, ...). The adornments will feature a retro appearance and we will come across designer zips and pieces of glass used in virtually every clothing item. The colours will present a neutral and highly relaxed appeal, based on a predominant use of blue, green and violet.

The most popular clothing items for women will be jackets that mark the waist, whilst men will be drawn towards disproportionate clothing items with large pockets.

EXPRESSIVE NAÏVE

A fusion of styles and cultures will burst back onto the scene. This trend will feature a strong use of wild silk of rustic appeal, cotton and natural linen. Buttons, buckles and zips will offer a wide spectrum of colours and patterns of eclectic appeal. A combination of the rustic and the exotic will make it possible to place graffiti effects alongside embroidery and fine lace. Shades such as orange, red and pink will play a leading role, alongside brown and grey.

The patterns will include images from Arab culture, large patches, a considerable use of graffiti and icons on the pockets. Superimposed T-shirts, sports clothing and, in short, any kind of highly personalised clothing that flees from the effects of globalisation, will be all the rage.

TEXTILMODA will be open from 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. throughout its entire duration, except for the last day of the fair when it will close its doors at 6.00 p.m.
