The SIL beats its records of visitors and business

More than 45.000 professionals visited the SIL 2006
The International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition 2007 will be held  from the 5th to the 8th of June, at the Exhibition Center Gran Vía 2
Enrique Lacalle, President of the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition, organized  by “Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Barcelona” which is chaired by Manuel Royes, declared today that the International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition SIL 2.006 “surpassed all expectations and was visited by 45.000 professionals from the sector”. Barcelona has become the European capital of Logistics, which confirms the importance of this event for the international logistics sector. This year, with an area of 70,000 square metres, the show has confirmed the second place among Europe's logistics shows.


The estimated turnover was 2.000 million de Euros.

Enrique Lacalle has stated that the SIL’2006 figures confirm “the wise decision eight years ago to create an international show for the logistics sector. This sector is a dynamo for the economy, which has great potential for growth, particularly in Spain”. For the SIL president, this trade fair has turned into “the not to be missed dated and the meeting point for the logistics sectors, as well as an unavoidable benchmark for the Mediterranean area and for business relationships between Europe, Latin America and North Africa”.
At the closure of this edition, Lacalle has shown his optimism due to the good results obtained from this eighth edition: “Today we may affirm that we have fulfilled all set aims: in eight editions, the SIL has managed to multiply exhibition surface area by eight, we have 900 exhibiting companies, and a total amount of 1.000 participating  companies from up to 66 countries”.
Enrique Lacalle has also highlighted the fact that at the present edition of the Symposium the number of speakers and participants has increased in relation to the 2005 edition.
Other aspects that stand out from the trade fair have been:
1st. Inauguration presided over by Mr. Joan Clos, Mayor of Barcelona.
2nd. The Logistics Night was presided over by Mr. José Montilla; Minister of Industry, Tourism, and Trade.
3rd. The closing session of  Symposium, Jacques Barrot, Vice-president of the European Commission and Transport Commissionaire.

7th. The 9th International Symposium SIL-Cinco Días has been a resounding success in terms of speaker quality and programme.
8th. Mr Karim Ghellab, Minister of Transports and Equipment of Morocco, and Mr. Mohamed Aouali, General Secretary of the Minister of Transports of Algeria  participated in the 4th International Logistics and Transport Forum.
9th. The quality of the stands and its design have significantly increased.
10th. We must point out the importance of the Technical Conferences with more than 2,500 businessmen of the sector.
11th. Though it is difficult to know the turnover that the trade fair has registered, on a first approximate calculation, the SIL’s president considered that "the value of operations between logistics companies that have been arranged in these four days of the fair may be over 2,000 million Euros, and SIL has generated for Barcelona 20 million Euros in revenues”.
On the other hand, among other SIL 2006 aspects, Enrique Lacalle has emphasized:
•       The general satisfaction among exhibitors, professionals and public.
•       The SIL 2006 has contributed to increase Barcelona's economic activity and prestige, and for a few days the city was the European Logistics capital.
•       The growth rate of the trade fair, which , from 1999, has multiplied its surface area by eight in only eight years.
Manuel Royes, Special Delegate of the State and Executive President of Consorcio de la Zona Franca, has stated that he feels “proud of having contributed from the Consorci in the transformation of Barcelona into the European Capital of logistics during 4 days thought a trade fair which is an international reference within the sector”.
Enrique Lacalle, on the other hand, wants “to thank all the authorities, exhibitors, participants, visitors and media for their collaboration and enthusiastic participation, which has enabled the success of this 8th International Logistics and Material Handling Exhibition, that has again been held in Barcelona”.
