The home of the future will be presented at Habitat Valencia Forward
An intelligent home with a computerised system via which the lights are switched on at night-time and the coffee maker starts while you take a shower. A home which has furniture made from residues, projector robots and built-in speakers to produce a continuous multimedia show, ecological sanitary ware… All these advances seem to be typical of a science fiction film. But this is not so. Far from being a film-making invention, the home of the future is much nearer than we believe. This we can discover at Habitat Valencia Forward, the event that is included in FIM – the International Furniture Fair, DE>CO – the International Decoration and Accessories Fair, and FIAM – the International Fair of Lighting Fixtures.
Habitat Valencia Forward, which is to take place between 18th and 23rd September at Feria Valencia, will host areas of reflection on the future of habitats. During this event, several prestigious professionals will give conferences and organise forums for debates on different themes at ÁGORA of Forward, located in Pavilion 8 of Feria Valencia.
Among these professionals we find Luis de Garrido, PhD in architecture and computer studies, town planner and the president of the National Association for the Future Home (ANAVIF), who will explain the future tendencies in interior decorating and furniture design. As a novelty, he will present his prototype of a potential habitat: the Neo 3 project which he intends to construct for this Fair to be held in 2007.
This is a spectacularly designed home which is 100% ecological and prefabricated, which includes a highly efficient bioclimatic structure with alternative energies. His prototype will cover 160 square meters and will include all the environments of an ideal habitat for the Society of the Future: furniture made from healthy non-emitting materials which are recycled in many cases, with environment conditioning systems, ecological kitchens and bathrooms, and multimedia with virtual spaces which go beyond physical limits, plus technology coordinated with an automated control system. All this with creativity and innovation as key elements since the objective is to build a revolutionary home that stirs the sector and for manufactures to start creating more astonishing lines.
Luis de Garrido, the coordinator of Neo 3, explains that the intention is “to show the sector a future direction in business, the cost of which is not as high as people believe”. According to the prestigious architect, “the design, promotion and construction of homes is to be definitely altered by influences such as ecology, health, high technologies, new consumer trends, new social awareness, the ageing population, the new nuclear family structures, the widespread breakdown of architectural barriers, attending the homeless and deprived and, in general, the new needs of people and our planet”. He points out that Neo 3 is presented for all these reasons “to provide an answer to the challenges of the future”.
However, other than this prototype, the architect will also analyse other projects concerning the potential home that he has undertaken, such as the ‘GAIA’ house which combines energy efficiency with the highest technologies, three houses that have been renovated in Valencia, the ‘Lliri Blau’ housing development located at Massalfassar (Valencia), a sustainable, bioclimatic and automated project which consumes 40% of what a conventional building consumes, the ‘Biosfera XXI’ housing development inspired by the “Barraca”, the typical Valencian country construction, built with materials and technologies which are not harmful for the health, the ‘Pont Mare’, the first bridge-skyscraper worldwide, or ‘La Llum’, a sustainable skyscraper designed for the city of Manhattan.
These are just some of the works by a professional who, over the last 13 years, has only accepted commissions in which ecological, health-related and environmental criteria are taken rigorously into account, and which will be presented at Habitat Valencia Forward. Thus, this Fair becomes a pioneer in the habitat industry, and extends its business function to establish itself not only as a platform of reference among businessmen and businesswomen of this sector, but also as a platform for the research for new products on a road towards the future.
